Sat, 12th July - 4:30pm - Managing Real time Streaming Media in a web 2.0 world

Mr. Prakash Khot (along wth D D Ganguly)

On the coming Saturday, 12th July at 4:30pm, we bring to you an exciting talk on 'Managing Real time Streaming Media in a web 2.0 world'.

Hotmail changed public perception about e-mail - it was no longer necessary to pay internet service providers for an e-mail address. Then Skype changed the voice over IP landscape. Dimdim has attempted at filling a similar gap in the web conferencing world.

Mr. Prakash Khot, CTO, will deliver a technical talk that focuses on the challenges faced in developing software which handles

  • Real time Audio and Video
  • Real time Desktop Sharing

Additionally, there will be discussion on challenges in testing the real-time sharing software

  • Asymmetrical Networks
  • Caching Proxies

About DimDim

DimDim, an Open Source company in Hyderabad, created the world's free web meeting where you can share your desktop, show slides, collaborate, chat, talk and broadcast via webcam with absolutely no download required for attendees. This contrasts the model of proprietary closed competitors like WebEx !

Unlike other web conference products, Dimdim does not require users to install software on their computers to attend web meetings. Users can start or join meetings with just a few clicks. Dimdim is available for free so everyone - not just big companies with big budgets - can use it. And Dimdim is available as open source software so you can extend and improve it freely. Dimdim already integrates with CRM and LMS software and can be extended easily. And Dimdim is extremely flexible, available in hosted and onsite configurations and easily customizable.

Dimdim started in Feb 2006, and is backed by Nexus India Capital, Index Ventures and Draper Richards.

DimDim is hosted on Sourceforge
